When talking about makeup, inspiration from ladies with your same skin tone will help you really see how the makeup colors and textures will look like in your own face. For example, the same lipstick or blush color will not look the same in ladies with completely different skin tones.

Regarding hair, depending on the hair color is how we hairstylists choose the technique to achieve different textures and finishes. For example, a braid will never look the same in a lady with blond highlights vs. a lady with black hair.
